Several years ago our SOSC BOD kicked Mickey Munoz around the
beach as if he were yesterday's coffee grounds. Mickey certainly has
surfing credentials for which most would die. Back in the day when
Dr.Wilkes, and his band of Gonads [BOD] were awarded an inch but
took a mile, proclaiming as long as Corky Carroll and Richard M.
Nixon mandated the SOSC had possession of the beach 'Nofre would
become State governed, however, under pressure of the original
WW II vets would be allowed one member dies, one new member
admitted, not unlike today's line: one out, one in. That being the
case, with the floodgates thrown opened, albeit a Club waiting list,
Munoz opted to sign up for membership, damn the torpedoes, full
speed ahead! So Munoz sat there fifteen agonizing years awaiting
his opportunity as full fledged member of the San Onofre Surfing
Club--decal and membership card--included for the $5.00
membership fee. It got to the point SOSC Membership was
an obsession to Munoz. Finally, what seemed an eternity his
name was at the top of the draw. Munoz was days away
from his initiation. The phone rang. "Hey, Mongoose,
you're in!"Corky and Nixon declared nobody could keep
you out of that silly club. All those years of torment, Munoz was
in the Club (for $5.00 initiation fee). When I first knew about
this years ago, I was really unsure about his rational. "Hey,
Munoz remember The Casa Mia, Sip 'n Surf, Ernie Mission,
Ted's Grill, and Pancho. What happened? "
