Poor San Clemente. Each year at Halloween, Latinos flock in from SJC,
El Monte, Hacienda Heights, claro que si Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, they
cram into 15 passenger Ford Club Vans, flock to Ave. La Cucuracha, like flies
on dog schitt. Their vans park in Ralph's parking lot, 250 trick or treaters
jump out, no costumes, only oversize pillow cases used to cache their just
rewards. Momma y pappa scan the northside of the street while their
ninos canvas the south side, "Truco o convite", they demand.
Residents are terrified, they load the non-costumed waifs with everything
from Abba Zabbas to Milk Duds to Coconut Snowballs. Within 20 minutes, the
pequenos banditos file back into the Club Vans and head home. If you arrive
prior to the Mexican invasion, you can go up to El Camino, look down on
the festivities, and see how much it looks like Time's Square at NewYears Eve
as they pour in for the freebies. Better yet Ave. de Revelution in Tijuana.
Well, when they return to San Gabriel Valley, lay the goodies out on the
linoleum, guess who gets the lion's share? Yep you guessed it! Papa!
